Why You May Need a Gauge Accessory
Pressure gauge accessories are designed to complement a pressure gauge in order to enhance and maximize the performance of the gauge. But sometimes accessories are perceived as bringing little value, tacking on an additional cost, or being completely unnecessary altogether. And while not every pressure measurement instrument needs a gauge accessory, WIKA’s Full Audit Service Team (FAST) found that most pressure gauge accessories are often underutilized and even overlooked.
Why Use Accessories?
During these audits, the FAST discovered that the #1 reason for using a gauge accessory is to protect the pressure gauge from abnormal conditions. Pressure spikes, temperature, and corrosion are leading causes for premature gauge failure. Accessories for a pressure gauge may be the extra step needed for a successful, proactive, preventative maintenance program and for extending the life of pressure gauges in environments like oil and gas, petrochemical, and chemical plants.
These most used gauge accessories can help with all of these issues:
- Pairing a pressure gauge with a mini-siphon protects the gauge from harmful steam, vapors and liquids.
- Pairing a pressure gauge with an overpressure protector protects the gauge from pressures exceeding its maximum pressure rating.
- Pairing a pressure gauge with a diaphragm seal protects the gauge from hot, viscous, contaminated or corrosive media.
- Pairing a pressure gauge with a snubber protects the gauge from pressure pulses.
