Comment REACh / RoHS / Hazardous substances lists

1. Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 (REACh)

In accordance with Article 33 of the REACh regulation, the company Alexander Wiegand SE & Co. KG is obliged to inform their customers if one of our products contains a substance of very high concern (SVHC) in a concentration of more than 0.1 percent.

To date we have no information that the products supplied to you contain SVHC substances at concentrations exceeding 0.1 per cent by weight. If SVHC substances exceeding the indicated concentration are included in our products, we will inform you immediately.

2. EU directive RoHS (2011/65/EU former 2002/95/EC)

Regarding the fulfillment of the requirements of the EU directives WEEE (2002/96/EG)
and RoHS (2011/65/EU former 2002/95/EG), we can report that our products are mostly not subject to the rules of this directive. The products that fall within the scope of the directive are assigned to the instrument category 9 (Monitoring and control instruments, see appendix IA of the WEEE directive). Thus, the designated substance bans in section 4.1 of the RoHS directive do not apply to our products during the transition period until July 22, 2017. The objective of this exception is to make it possible for the manufacturers to verify long-term reliability of lead-free connection structures in corresponding products and to minimise the customer risk.

3. RESOLUTION MEPC. 269(68)  -  Hong Kong Convention

The substances listed in this resolution are either substances such as cleaning agents which, due to their hazardous nature, are avoided in the manufacturing processes at WIKA as far as possible, but which are under no circumstances constituent elements of WIKA products. The remaining substances also listed in this resolution fall under the RoHS directive for which the statement made in paragraph 2 is valid.

Thanks to the conformity with RoHS, we can therefore derive for WIKA products that the “Materials contained in ship structure or equipment” listed in the Hong Kong Convention are not relevant.

However, we aim to comply with the requirements of the above named directive for freedom from hazardous substances as soon as possible. For this reason, WIKA set up a capacious programme which prevents the usage of environmentally-sensitive substances in our products at the earliest possible stage.

If you require freedom from hazardous substances on short notice, we will have to calculate the expense for an advanced qualification and the resulting extra costs and appointments.
