WIKA group level control devices are represented by a wide range of products that solve a wide range of tasks in the field of level measurement - from visual control to monitoring of level limits. Depending on the type of tasks in the instruments, various physical principles of measurement and control are used, but the goal is to measure the level and apply the instrument-a level gauge or a measuring system.

What is level gauge - level measurement with the help of a float?

Floating measuring systems are represented by three groups of products - a bypass level indicator, a level sensor and a float switch.

The bypass level gauge is connected to the tank in such a way that the liquid level in the vessel and in the bypass chamber coincide. Thus, the position of the float coincides with the liquid level, and the visual indication is provided by a magnetic display with two-color rollers.

The level sensor is represented by two models - with a reed chain and magnetostrictive. They differ in the accuracy of the measurements. The guide tube of the sensor with the float mounted on it is placed directly in the tank and the float moves freely along the tube when the liquid level changes. In addition to standard versions, special sensor materials, such as titanium or plastic, are also available, as well as for sterile processes in the food or pharmaceutical industry.

A float switch is used when the  level gauge is to monitor any level limit. The switch can be mounted on top of the tank and in this case can have up to eight switching points with a normally open, closed or switching contact, and in the side wall of a tank with one switching point. This solution is simple and reliable, the performance of the  transmitter does not depend on the conditions inside the tank, such as the formation of foam, bubbles, the effect of boiling or vibration.

What is optoelectronic level switch?

Like the float switch, the optoelectronic switch- level gauge is used to monitor limit values. The working capacity of the sensor does not depend on the mounting variant - vertically, horizontally or at an angle. Level control occurs when the glass light guide of the sensor is wetted by a controlled liquid, which leads to a change in the strength of the infrared pulse generated by the LED and detected by the photodetector. Such a sensor is highly reliable due to the absence of moving parts and is suitable for harsh operating conditions, as well as for sterile processes.

What is submersible level sensor?

The principle of measuring a  level gauge of this type, i.e. submersible level sensor, is based on measuring the hydrostatic pressure of the liquid column above the sensor and then recalculating it into a level value in accordance with Pascal's law. Such sensor- level gauge can be used in difficult conditions, for example, in mines and boreholes, and allows measuring the level at depths of up to 100 meters. Hydrostatic sensors can be used to control the level of heavily polluted media, such as wastewater. They can be made both from stainless steel, and from special materials such as titanium. A wide range of used data transfer protocols allows the sensor to be used with different environments, remotely reconfiguring it.
