Pressure Transducers Role in Electronic Pressure Measurement
In electronic pressure measurement, pressure transducers are devices that convert the physical pressure applied to the sensor into an electronic signal. This electronic signal is proportional to the applied pressure. For example, pressure transducers monitor the amount of breathing air in the tanks of self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) of firefighters to ensure they can continue rescue efforts.
Pressure Transducer Applications
Pressure transducers are comprised of a sensor as well as process and electrical connections and provide output signals ranging from 2mV/V to 0-100mV. Pressure transducers are ideal for applications where space is limited, such as in electronic devices or in battery-powered applications where the low-powered signal won’t tax battery life. Additionally, pressure transducers without amplifiers are often purchased by manufacturers who build their own electronics and incorporate the transducer into their products. Pressure transducers sold without amplifiers are often referred to as “bare” transducers or pressure sensor.
Selecting Pressure Transducers
To select the proper electronic pressure measurement instrument, whether it’s a pressure transducer or pressure transmitter, you should first consider the output signal. Is it 0-5V, 0-10V, 4-20-mA? You should also consider selection criteria such as the pressure range and pressure connection.
